Bits, bytes and transfer speeds

Storage is usually expressed in bytes while network speeds are usually expressed in bits per second.

Eight bits per byte

Converting from a file size in bytes to a network rate in bits requires the factor of eight.

Decimal assumptions

The calculators state their units explicitly so you can keep the same convention across inputs.

Real throughput

Measured network throughput can be below the advertised link rate.
